I fell in love with classical technique after moving to Seattle from my home in Oregon to learn how to cast bronze. While taking classes in moldmaking, bronze casting, welding and metal fabrication at Pratt Fine Arts Center in Seattle, I found out about Gage Academy where I studied figure drawing and sculpting, and took several artistic anatomy classes.
While at Gage I learned about The Seattle Sculpture Atelier and Georgetown Atelier. I took classes at both, and eventually studied drawing for one academic year as a full-time student at Georgetown Atelier under Tenaya Sims, a graduate of Juliette Aristides’s atelier at Gage. During that time I was invited to teach a high school figure sculpting class series for Gage’s youth program, and enjoyed it immensely.
Following my studies in Seattle, I was admitted to the sculpting program at the Florence Academy of Art in Florence, Italy, where I studied for six months. The photo of me on this page is from that very enjoyable time I spent in Florence, and I hope to return there one day to further my studies.
